Vicken Sonentz Papazian graduated from Bates College in Lewiston Maine with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science in 1984 and a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in 1990. During his legal studies, Sonentz Papazian also studied international law in Florence Italy. He was admitted to practice in California state and federal courts in 1991 and in the District of Columbia in 1993. His practice focuses primarily in the areas of business litigation and transactions, as well as criminal defense and administrative law.

In addition, to the practice of law, Sonentz Papazian has served as the Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee offices in Washington, D.C. and Glendale California. While serving as Director of the Washington, D.C. office, Sonentz Papazian worked closely with the Bush and Clinton Administrations in securing the first U.S. foreign aid assistance package to the Republic of Armenia, to fund a number of projects including the establishment of the American University of Armenia. Moreover, in 1992, he worked closely with the U.S. Congress in passing legislation prohibiting U.S. aid to the Republic of Azerbaijan for its blockade and aggression toward the Republics of Armenia and Nagorno Karabagh.

Sonentz Papazian is active in a number of Armenian and non-Armenian community based organizations, serving as a Board Member of Glendale Healthy Kids and the Los Angeles County Assessors Community Advisory Task Force. He has received recognition from the Armenian Bone Marrow Registry and Yerevan State University for his volunteer service.
